Key takeaways
- “AI Overview checker” covers two different jobs: checking whether Google’s AI Overview cites your site for your keywords, and tracking prompts in AI chat assistants. Pricing pages use “AI visibility” loosely, so read what sits behind it.
- On 14 October 2026, Ranktracker’s pricing page said every keyword includes AI Overview monitoring, and the Pro Rank Tracker Starter plan ($99 a month) listed “AI Overviews & AI Mode” on a separate line from “AI Platforms (LLMs)”.
- SE Ranking, Nightwatch, Mangools, Keyword.com and AgencyAnalytics price AI tracking in prompts or credits: 100 prompts on SE Ranking Core, 50 on Nightwatch Starter, 20 credits for $9.80 a month on Keyword.com, $25 a month per 250 credits on AgencyAnalytics.
- A Rank Check Report shows, for every keyword on every engine, whether an AI Overview appeared and whether it cited or mentioned your site, from $14.99 per check with no subscription.
- If you need AI Overview data every day, or chat assistant tracking, a subscription is the better buy. If you need a monthly answer next to your rankings, a report is enough.
An AI Overview checker should answer one plain question: when Google shows an AI Overview for one of your keywords, does it cite your site? Yet tools sold under “AI visibility” answer at least two different questions, and only some of them look at Google’s results page. A good AI Overview checker shows that answer next to your position for every keyword you track.
This roundup sorts eight tools by what their pricing pages list, then shows how our report records AI Overview citations. A disclosure first: I run onwardSEO, which sells pay-per-check Google rank reports, so read this as a vendor’s comparison. Every competitor detail below was read on the tool’s pricing page on 14 October 2026, and I kept a dated screenshot of each; four are shown below. Where a pricing page doesn’t say something, I don’t claim it.
Two different jobs sold as “AI tracking”
Job 1: Google AI Overview tracking. You search a keyword on Google, and sometimes an AI-generated summary appears above the regular results, with links to the pages it drew on. Google’s page on AI features and your website says AI Overviews are only shown when its systems judge them additive to classic search, and that a page must be indexed and eligible to show with a snippet to appear as a supporting link. Tracking it means checking, for each keyword, Google edition and device: was there an AI Overview, and did it cite or mention your site?
Job 2: AI assistant prompt tracking. You write prompts, the questions a customer might type into a chat assistant. The tool puts them to one or more AI assistants and records whether your brand appears in the answers. No Google position is involved, and it is usually priced in prompts or credits.
| Google AI Overview tracking | AI assistant prompt tracking | |
|---|---|---|
| Starts from | Your keywords | Prompts you write |
| Where it looks | Google’s results page, per country and device | Answers from AI chat assistants |
| What it records | AI Overview present; your site cited, mentioned or not cited | Whether your brand or site appears in the answer |
| How it is priced | Usually per keyword | Prompts or credits |
Before you compare AI trackers, decide whether you are asking Google or asking a chatbot.
What a good AI Overview checker shows
Five things to look for in an AI Overview checker
- Presence: did this results page, on this Google edition and device, carry an AI Overview?
- Cited or mentioned: did the AI Overview cite or mention your site, or neither?
- The detail of that citation or mention, such as “Cited #2 of 7”.
- The same check as your position, so you can spot a page that ranks 3rd but isn’t cited.
- A count across the whole list: cited in n of m AI Overviews.
The last two matter most. Next to a position, an AI Overview flag shows where you rank well but sit under a summary that doesn’t mention you. That is where content work pays first.
AI Overview checker tools compared (14 October 2026)
The table shows what each pricing page listed about AI, with the smallest plan’s price. SE Ranking, Nightwatch and Mangools showed euros because I opened the pages from Romania; the others showed US dollars. Prices vary by location, and I have not converted any currency.

Rank trackers that list AI Overview or AI citation tracking
Ranktracker
Ranktracker’s pricing page puts the claim above every plan: “Every keyword includes Top 100 tracking + AI Overview monitoring.” The Launch plan costs $39 a month on monthly billing, or $31.20 a month paid annually, for 500 keywords tracked daily in the top 100. The page doesn’t say whether the monitoring records which sites the AI Overview cites, so confirm that before you buy.
Pro Rank Tracker
The Starter plan, $99 a month or $89 a month paid annually for 1,000 terms with daily top 100 updates, lists “AI Overviews & AI Mode” and, on a separate line, “AI Platforms (LLMs)”. So it sells both jobs from figure 1. Watch the counting: one term is one keyword for one URL on one search engine, and each local or mobile combination counts as its own term. The free trial tracks 100 terms daily for 7 days, enough to see what its AI Overview data looks like.
Advanced Web Ranking
Advanced Web Ranking’s Pro plan ($139 a month, or $125 a month billed at $1,500 a year, for 7,000 keywords) lists “AI Visibility tracking”, “AI Citations and Mentions” and full SERP features analysis. The card doesn’t say which AI engines the citations come from, so ask, or use the 30-day money-back guarantee to find out.
Tools that track prompts in AI assistants
These five sell job 2, in prompts or credits:
- SE Ranking Core (€109.00 a month, €87.20 annually) includes 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts to track daily.
- Nightwatch Starter (€99 a month, €79 yearly) includes 500 keywords and 50 AI prompts tracked daily, with Google, YouTube and Bing.
- Mangools Basic (€30.50 a month, €18.85 annually) bundles AI Search Watcher PRO, a prompt monitor whose card lists the LLMs it covers, next to 200 keywords of weekly rank tracking.
- Keyword.com sells AI Visibility as its own plan: $9.80 a month for 20 credits, labelled “AI Visibility tracking only”. Its Search Visibility plan, from $7 a month for 100 keywords, is “Google SERP tracking only”, with AI Visibility credits as an add-on. The 360° Visibility plan, $33 a month for 1,000 keywords and 15 credits, covers Google and AI search.
- AgencyAnalytics offers an AI Tracker add-on, marked beta, at $25 a month per 250 credits, on top of its core plan at $25 per client per month.
If your question is whether AI assistants recommend your brand, one of these is the right tool; a rank report can’t answer it. Their cards count prompts and don’t say whether keyword tracking also records AI Overview citations, so ask if you need both.
How a Rank Check Report shows AI Overview citations
Our report doesn’t track prompts. It answers the Google question for every keyword and engine, from the same results page as your position:
- The SERP features column flags an AI Overview on that results page.
- The AI Overview column says whether it cited or mentioned your site, in the form “Cited #2 of 7” or “Mentioned”, and shows a dash when it did neither.
- The AI Overview summary counts it across the list: cited in n of m AI Overviews.
- The At a glance line counts how many results pages carried an AI Overview.
In the public sample report, “adr vs revpar” ranks 6th on Google.co.uk desktop, and its AI Overview column reads “Mentioned #2 of 6”. Two rows below, “hotel pms system” ranks 8th with an AI Overview on the page, and the column shows a dash: the site was neither cited nor mentioned. Across the 400 keyword rows, the site was cited in 5 AI Overviews and mentioned in 6.
What to do with each case is in our explainer on AI Overview tracking; the rest of the report is covered in our rank tracking report walkthrough.
What it is not: no daily tracking, no AI Mode, no chat assistants, no alerts. It covers Google web search, with four engines included (your Google edition and google.com, each on desktop and mobile), one live check per order.
Which AI Overview checker should you choose?
| If you need… | The better fit |
|---|---|
| AI Overview data every day for hundreds of keywords | Ranktracker or Pro Rank Tracker |
| Brand mentions in AI chat assistants | A prompt tracker: SE Ranking, Nightwatch, Mangools, Keyword.com or AgencyAnalytics |
| Both jobs in one subscription | Pro Rank Tracker (both listed on Starter) |
| A monthly answer to “does Google’s AI Overview cite us?”, next to your rankings | Rank Check Report |
| A client-ready file with no tool login | Rank Check Report |
On price: one check a month for a year at 100 keywords costs $179.88 (12 × $14.99). A year of Ranktracker Launch costs $468 on monthly billing or $374.40 paid annually, and Pro Rank Tracker Starter costs $1,188 monthly or $1,068 annually. Those subscriptions track every day for that money, so the comparison only holds if a monthly snapshot is what you need. If it is, you can order a one-off Google rank report with AI Overview citations included.
If you’d rather have someone read the report and turn it into actions every month, that is what our SEO rank tracking service does.
FAQ
What is an AI Overview checker?
A tool that checks Google’s results page for your keywords and records whether an AI Overview appears and whether it cites your site. Some tools use the same label for prompt tracking in AI chat assistants, which is a different job.
How can I see if my site is in Google’s AI Overviews?
For a few keywords, search them and open the sources under the AI Overview, keeping in mind that your own results are personalised. For a list, use a tool that checks each keyword on a set Google edition and device and records cited or mentioned. Google says traffic from AI features is included in your overall search traffic in Search Console’s Performance report, under the Web search type.
Do I need special markup to appear in AI Overviews?
No. Google says there are no additional requirements or special optimisations, and no special structured data to add. A page must be indexed and eligible to show in Google Search with a snippet, and even then inclusion isn’t guaranteed.
