Key takeaways

  • A small business with 50 to 400 keywords that reads rankings once a month does not need daily updates, thousands of keywords or extra seats. Don’t pay for them.
  • Google Search Console is free and should come first, but its average position covers every search where your site appeared. It is not a check of your keyword list on one Google edition and device.
  • For a weekly look at up to 200 keywords, Keyword.com’s Search Visibility plan cost $7 to $10 a month on 14 October 2026. Mangools Basic adds keyword research for €18.85 a month, billed annually.
  • If someone else reads the result, or you need AI Overview data, price a finished report as well as a tracker: at top 30 depth, a Rank Check Report costs $14.99 (up to 100 keywords) to $44.99 (up to 400) per check, with four Google engines included.
  • Pay for daily tracking only if someone acts on daily movements.

The best rank tracker for small business is the one that answers your question as often as you ask it, and no more often. For an owner or in-house marketer with 50 to 400 keywords, that question usually comes once a month: are we climbing on the searches that bring us customers? A tool built to answer it every day, for thousands of keywords and a whole team, costs more without answering it better. For many owners, a rank checker for small business that charges per report is enough.

This guide sorts what’s worth paying for by five needs, then prices six options as their pages showed them on 14 October 2026. If price is all you care about, our roundup of the cheapest rank tracker options has the full table for twelve tools.

A disclosure: I run onwardSEO, and one of the six options is our own pay-per-check rank reports. Competitor prices come from screenshots of their pricing pages taken on 14 October 2026. Some showed euros because I opened them from Romania. Prices vary by location, and I haven’t converted them.

Five questions that decide what’s worth paying for

1. How often do you look?

Daily updates only pay off if someone acts on daily changes. If you read rankings in a monthly meeting, you need one reliable snapshot a month, compared with the one before. Our article on daily rank tracking covers when daily data is worth the money.

2. How many keywords?

Plans are sold in steps: 200 keywords on Mangools Basic, 500 on Wincher Basic, 2,000 on SE Ranking Core. Some tools also count each device or engine as an extra keyword; AccuRanker, for example, counts one keyword checked on Google and Bing, on mobile and desktop, as four. Buy the step that fits your list, counted the way the tool counts it.

3. One website or several?

Several entry plans cover more than one site. On 14 October 2026, Keyword.com’s Search Visibility plan listed unlimited domains, Mangools Basic showed unlimited domains for rank tracking, and Wincher Basic allowed up to 10 websites. If you run one site, the number of projects is not a reason to pay more.

4. Who reads the result?

If it’s you, a dashboard is fine. If it’s an owner, a board or a client, they need something they can open without a login. Building that by hand every month takes time, and white-label reporting is often a higher plan or an add-on: a paid add-on at Keyword.com, the Professional plan and up at Nightwatch.

5. Do you need AI Overview data?

If Google shows an AI Overview for your keywords, it matters whether it cites you. Some trackers list this on the pricing card: Ranktracker states that every keyword includes AI Overview monitoring, and the Starter plan at Pro Rank Tracker lists AI Overviews and AI Mode. Check that it is listed before you buy.

Six options, priced on 14 October 2026

1. Google Search Console: free

Search Console is Google’s own data about your site, and every business should have it set up. Google’s help page for the Performance report lists clicks, impressions, click-through rate and average position, which on the chart is “the average position of the topmost result from your entire site”. The default view covers the past three months.

Its limit for rank tracking is the word “average”. The figure blends every search where your site appeared, across countries and devices unless you filter them, so it can’t tell you where you rank today for one keyword on mobile in your country. Use it for trends in clicks; use a rank check for positions.

2. Keyword.com Search Visibility: from $7 a month

Keyword.com’s pricing page listed $7 a month for 100 keywords and $10 for 200, billed monthly, with weekly ranking updates, Google SERP tracking only, unlimited domains and Looker Studio. A white-label add-on was available for purchase. For a weekly look at a small list it is hard to beat, and it costs less than a monthly Rank Check Report for the same list.

3. Mangools Basic: €18.85 a month, billed annually

Mangools’ plans page showed Basic at €30.50 a month, or €18.85 a month billed annually (€226.20 a year). Rank tracking covers 200 keywords with weekly updates, and the plan includes keyword research, SERP analysis, backlinks, site analysis and AI Search Watcher PRO. For an owner who does their own SEO, the research tools are the reason to pick it.

4. Ranktracker Launch: $39 a month

Ranktracker’s Launch plan cost $39 a month, or $31.20 a month billed annually. It allows 500 keywords tracked daily, or 3,500 weekly, 7,000 bi-weekly or 15,000 monthly, and the page states that every keyword includes top 100 tracking and AI Overview monitoring. If your list is far beyond 400 keywords and you read it monthly, this is better value than our per-check reports, whose listed tiers end at 400 keywords (we quote larger lists separately).

5. SE Ranking Core: €109 a month

SE Ranking’s Core plan cost €109 a month, or €87.20 a month billed annually, for 2,000 keywords and 100 prompts tracked daily, 10 projects and one manager seat. It adds unlimited keyword, competitor and backlink research and a website audit, with a 14-day free trial. Worth it for a marketer who uses those tools every week; more than a monthly glance needs.

6. Rank Check Reports: from $14.99 per check

You send your keyword list, website and Google edition; a live Google check runs on desktop and mobile; you get a web report, a PDF and an Excel file within one working day, with your logo and brand colour if you want them. Four Google engines are included: your Google edition and google.com, each on desktop and mobile.

Keywords (up to) Top 30 Top 60
100 $14.99 $17.99
200 $24.99 $29.99
300 $34.99 $44.99
400 $44.99 $59.99

Every report records the SERP features on each results page (18 types) and whether Google’s AI Overview cited or mentioned your site. At top 30, twelve monthly checks for 200 keywords cost $299.88 a year; four quarterly checks cost $99.96. It is not a dashboard, it has no daily tracking or alerts, no search volume and no competitor lists, and it covers Google only. You can see a sample report before you order a Google rank report for your keyword list.

What isn’t worth paying for (yet)

  • Daily updates when you read rankings monthly.
  • Keyword allowances far above your list. 2,000 keywords for a list of 150 is mostly unused capacity.
  • Extra seats for people who will never log in.
  • Competitor tracking you won’t act on.
  • Extra search engines unless your customers use them.

What is worth paying for

What a small business rank check must get right

  • The same Google edition, device and depth on every check, so changes are real.
  • Desktop and mobile reported separately.
  • The ranking URL, so you know which page ranks.
  • Counts by position band (top 3, top 10, top 30), not only an average.
  • SERP features and AI Overview data from the same results page.
  • Each check compared with the previous one, keyword by keyword.

Buy rankings at the rate you read them; anything faster is a cost, not a benefit.

If you’d rather have someone read the report and turn it into actions every month, that is what our SEO rank tracking service does.

FAQ

What is the best rank tracker for a small business?

The one that matches how often you look. If you read rankings monthly, Google Search Console plus a monthly or quarterly rank check covers it. If you look weekly at up to 200 keywords, a low-cost weekly tracker such as Keyword.com or Mangools Basic fits. Daily trackers make sense when someone acts on daily changes.

Is Google Search Console enough for rank tracking?

For trends in your own clicks and impressions, it is a good start and it is free. Its position figure is an average across the searches where your site appeared, not a check of a fixed keyword list on a chosen Google edition and device. A periodic rank check fills that gap.

How much should a small business pay for rank tracking?

Among the options here, on 14 October 2026: nothing for Search Console, $7 to $10 a month for Keyword.com, €18.85 a month for Mangools Basic billed annually, $39 a month for Ranktracker Launch and €109 a month for SE Ranking Core. Twelve monthly Rank Check Reports for 100 keywords at top 30 cost $179.88. Decide how often you look first, then compare.

Does a small business need AI Overview tracking?

If Google shows AI Overviews on your important keywords, yes: a steady position can sit under an AI Overview that cites a competitor. Check whether the tool lists AI Overview data on its plan before you buy; every Rank Check Report includes it.

Get one clear Google ranking report a month for your business, with AI Overview citations and no subscription, for up to 400 keywords on four Google engines.
